Common Council Record

May 20 1854

At a meeting of the Board of Health held this day in the Office of The City Clerk On motion of Commissioner Speer it was ordered that the Board recommend to the Council the Construction of a Temporary Building for a Cholera Hospital on the grounds recently purchased for that purpose. The Building to be of Wood – 72 feet by 20 feet and fourteen feet high to the eaves And that the President of this Board be requested to take the Construction of Said Building under his immediate Supervision.         Passed.

On Motion of Commissioner Speer it was Resolved – That the Health Officer be and that he is hereby directed to procure a horse Waggon Harness and Man to take care of and drive the Same and assist him with performance of his duties generally inside the advice of the President of the Board         Passed.

The Health Officer presented his report showing the Expenses of the Department under his direction for the month of April Which was approved And the amount of disbursements ordered to be placed to the Credit of his account               By Com. Dodge


Resolved – That in the opinion of the Board of Health that the Condition of the cellars City Markets in the South and West divisions are so injurious and detrimental to the Public Health that the board would respectfully recommend to the Common Council that Such attention be given to the Matter that such nuisance may be abated.
